Jessica Kensky & Patrick Downes
Somerville’s Candlewick Press has released the cover of the forthcoming children’s book by Boston Marathon bombing survivors Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes. “Rescue & Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship,” is about Kensky’s relationship with her black lab. The story is set to be released April 3, 2018. Kensky and Downes told the Globe last year that the book would not mention the bombing, and that it would focus on the story of a girl and her very intuitive pet.
The publisher’s synopsis: “Rescue thought he’d grow up to be a Seeing Eye dog — it’s the family business, after all. When he gets the news that he’s better suited to being a service dog, he’s worried that he’s not up to the task. Then he meets Jessica, a girl whose life is turning out differently than the way she’d imagined it, too. Now Jessica needs Rescue by her side to help her accomplish everyday tasks. And it turns out that Rescue can help Jessica see after all: a way forward, together, one step at a time.”
The illustrator on the project is another local, Scott Magoon, who has different book out first. Magoon’s “I Have a Balloon,” written by Ariel Bernstein, will be released Tuesday. CLICK FOR MORE
